Olympics

Watching the opening right now - very enjoyable.
Remember these three guys?
This photo was in a newspaper (that's me in the background in the black coat).
Chris Chataway & Chris Brasher think it was in 1954,  Roger Bannister is not sure. I wrote to them in 1999 & they all replied giving different recollections of the event!

Why?

I know it's a small thing compared to some of the vandalism that goes on, but......
.... why would anyone bother to break off this little tree that I have nurtured for over a year?
And - no - the pic is not on it's side!

Shadow Shot Sunday 2

Potatoes are growing well & I’ve just put seeds of Lettuce in, but will I be around to reap the harvest? The house I am renting is to be sold. Anyone out there want to invest in a nice little 2x1 house with sitting tenant? I didn’t think this would happen – not yet anyway, I've made this my home for the last four years! If I have to move this will be the 29th – but I must think positive – at the moment I just feel a bit numb.
Oh, well tomorrow is another day, I’ll do a Scarlett “I can't think about that right now. If I do, I'll go crazy. I'll think about that tomorrow.”

More books in July

Sat in my car yesterday enjoying the above.
My car (parked in the driveway in the sun) was 12deg warmer than the house! So I had my lunch, read & had afternoon tea there.

Picked up these from the library to read later.

Breaking news

Fisherman frees humpback whale

Fisherman frees humpback whale

A humpback whale tangled in a fishing line off the Perth coast has been freed.
The nine meter humpback had been struggling for hours caught in the fishing line off the shore near Two Rocks on the Western Australian coast.
A fisherman had spotted the whale, and stayed with it until Sea Rescue and the Department of Environment and Conservation came to help.
Whale experts say the gentle giant was distressed after being stuck for almost a day.

Mellow Yellow Monday #180

A very problematic issue! It's that time of the year again. Next door neighbours want the trees cut again. This has been going on since I moved in. (See post on 26 & 28 June  2010 & 18 June 2011).
The birds & I love these trees.
They make a great screen but the leaves fall over into next doors gutters & their pool. So they now have to go - completely!!I should be happy that the fence is wood not unsightly Hardifence!
Can anyone put a positive spin on what I can do to hide my view of their back yard? Something that doesn't cost much money!!!
